Oshawa’s households deserve nutritious and affordable food on their tables.
During the April 2025 federal election, Prime Minister Carney said that Canadians would judge his government by prices at the grocery store.
But one year later, Canada's food prices have risen at double the rate compared to all G7 countries. We have the highest rate of food inflation in the industrialized world.
The average Oshawa family will spend at least $995 more on groceries in 2026 versus last year.
The reasons for Canada's food inflation include the Liberals' increased hidden taxes on the fuels and fertilizers that Canadian farmers use to grow crops, raise animals, and deliver food to our tables. When farmers are taxed more, we pay more at the checkout.
Ahead of Ottawa's Spring Economic Statement (mini-budget) next week, Rhonda and the Conservatives are again calling on the government to immediately slash:
- The industrial carbon tax on fertilizer and farm equipment;
- The fuel standard tax on gasoline and diesel; and,
- The food packaging tax on plastics.
Our Petition

Whereas The Liberal industrial carbon tax on fertilizer and farm equipment has made producing food more expensive;
Whereas The Liberal Clean Fuel Standard tax on gas and diesel, has driven up Canadian farmers' costs and made food transportation more expensive; and,
Whereas The Liberal plastics ban has made packaging Canadian food more expensive and causes food to spoil faster, leading to higher grocery prices and food waste,
We call upon the Liberal government to cut the hidden taxes on food and deliver affordable groceries to Canadian families.
